Peisajul, sec XVIII – XX

The Landscape, 18th – 20th century

From Classicism to Impressionism

Landscape, a major theme in the history of painting, occupies an important place in our collection. In this context we have brought together works inspired by nature in rural or urban settings, created by artists from the Kingdom, such as Nicolae Grigorescu (1838-1907) or Ion Andreescu (1850-1882) who, following the model of the Barbizon colony near Paris, moved towards plein-air, inspired by the simplicity and beauty of the rhythm of nature. Anonymous painters whose theme is the pilgrimage to the Roman Catholic monastery of Saint Mary of Radna stand alongside authors inspired by their travels to Venice or Naples.
