This involves taking proactive measures to prevent deterioration and decay. In this respect, storage, display and transportation conditions are important for a work of art to maintain its condition over time.

The curatorial team of the National Art Museum Timișoara carefully manages the permanent exhibition spaces, creating a stable environment for the works of art. This involves constant monitoring and adjustment of temperature, humidity and air quality. Also, protection from direct sunlight and ensuring proper lighting conditions for each artwork are necessary to prevent fading, color alteration or other types of degradation.

From a conservation point of view, a similar level of attention and effort is given to the protection of the artworks in the museum’s storerooms. The museum’s collection comprises more than 9,000 works of art, of which less than 1,000 are on display in permanent or temporary exhibitions visible to the public. The remaining works of art are carefully preserved in the museum’s storerooms, according to the specific nature of the works of art: icons, paintings, graphics, sculpture, decorative art.

Transportation

The Museum’s conservation team demonstrates outstanding merits and is actively involved in both in-house exhibitions and exhibitions organized in partnership with other national and international museums and galleries. The conservation specialists make considerable efforts to ensure optimal protection of works of art during handling and transportation, minimizing the risk of damage. These measures include: using appropriate packaging materials, following handling protocols, supervising and accompanying the works of art throughout transportation.
