Starting December 21, 2022, the National Museum of Art in Timisoara will exhibit a photographic document of the NOIMA group’s action within the “MNArT Open View” project, SMALL REPRESENTATIVE OF THE UNIVERSE, whose concept belongs to the painter Constantin Flondor. The project “MNArT Open View” allows access to private art collections, transposing them into the public space through the micro-gallery on Mercy Street.

The land art action was undertaken by the NOIMA group in 2021 in Șirnea, Brasov county. It was followed at the end of the same year by the opening an exhibition at Galleria 28 in Timisoara. In the exhibition were presented alongside photographic documents, paintings signed by Constantin Flondor and members of the NOIMA group.

About the action “SMALL REPRESENTATIVE OF THE UNIVERSEcurator and art historian Maria Pasc notes: “Constantin Flondor, Knight of Flondor, has two passions: geometry and poetry. Coincidentia oppositorum: what is Constantin Flondor’s snowflake if not poetry poured in geometric rigor? Poetry unhindered by the geometric rigor that shapes it! Constantin Flondor, fire poetică, este geometric exigent cu sine și cu arta sa, într-un fel ce ni-l evocă pe Kant: „Două lucruri mă umplu cu mereu nouă și tot mai mare uimire și venerator cutremur, cu cât mai mult și mai stăruitor cuget la ele: cerul înstelat deasupra mea şi legea morală dinlăuntrul meu.” (Immanuel Kant, Critique of Practical Reason).

Constantin Flondor is a knight of the vision of the divine without equal in the world. He breaks down the deeper meaning of this word, the spirit, in order to recompose it and gives it a redeeming meaning – the life-giving, life-giving Spirit. And so he builds celestial architectures on canvas. Snowflakes – rays of splendor fall from the sky. Constantin Flondor is in love with Eminescu and geometry. Eminescu: “The Byzantine cross is like a snowflake, a small representative of the universe” (Mihai Eminescu, FragmentariumThe fabric of the snowflake is the ineffable – divine irradiation. What else would the snowflake be but a subtle, poetic sifting? Byzantine cross, small representative of the universe…

Friendship established under the name NOIMA: Ciprian Bodea, Cosmin Frunteș, Dan Gherman, Andrei Rosetti, Sorin Scurtulescu. A group without manifestos and programmatic pleas, surpassing individual aspirations, it has managed to give a collective meaning, to gain adherence and to register solidary conquests.

NOIMA is a group that is coherent in its balance and the artistic maturity of the five painters who make it up. What is NOIMA? The endeavor to harmonize technique and science through in-depth study. The five painters, performers, in Șirnea, have chosen to mark the earth with the snowflake symbol in reverence for their artistic director: Constantin Flondor. The work of the NOIMA painters’ hands and thoughts speaks of gratitude and joy.
